Hola,

For a while I was telling you LinkedIn wasn't helping text-only posts.

A text post got 2 or 3 lines in the feed. That was your hook, and then "...more."

Everything else was hidden.

So we all added something. A carousel. A one-pager. A screenshot. An image. Anything to take up more space on the screen. A text-only post could be the best thing you wrote all month, and it would still look tiny next to a big graphic.

That changed, just noticed it a few mins ago.

Text posts are bigger now

I noticed it on my phone first. Text posts are taking up way more of the screen.

So I checked my feed on desktop and counted.

→ Text-only posts showed 6 to 7 lines before "...more"
→ Posts with an image, video or carousel showed 1 to 3 lines

Desktop feed: a text-only post shows 7 lines before "...more"
Another text-only post on desktop showing 7 lines before "...more"

Before, most people worked with about 3 lines, or around 210 characters on desktop. Now a text-only post gets more than double that.

And carousels went the other way. Most carousels now show 2 slides side by side, so each slide is about half the size it used to be. But there's one little hack. More on that below.

LinkedIn hasn't announced this anywhere I could find. This is just what I'm seeing in my own feed.

What I'd do:

→ Post at least one text-only post this week. No graphic. Experiment!
→ Treat your first 7 lines as the hook, not just the first line. You have room for the setup and the tension now.
→ Keep it short overall. Remember the 175-word sweet spot from last issue. Seven lines is a big part of that.
→ Keep the carousels for posts that really need slides. Make the text big, since each slide shows smaller now.

Like I said, carousels got smaller. A lot smaller.

But here's a little hack I noticed.

If your carousel is only 2 slides, it takes up the same huge space as a one-pager.

A 2-slide carousel taking up the whole screen on mobile, same as a one-pager

If it has 3 slides or more, it gets really, really small.

What I'd do: if you want a short carousel that takes up the whole screen, keep it to 2 slides max.

I tried it out today:

Looks really cool, I like it.

D.
